A North East company has teamed up with the region’s largest airport to provide portable hygiene kits to passengers.
Family firm Enviro-point, based in Cramlington, Northumberland, has operated luggage weighing kiosks, passenger services and travel retail stores in airports across the UK and beyond since 2004.
Now, the onset of the Covid-19 crisis led them to create a new hygiene kit, set to be made available to Newcastle International Airport passengers as part of the transport hubs plans to ensure the terminal is a safe environment when flights resume.
As part of the airport’s plans, it is a requirement for passengers to wear masks when inside the terminal building and while it is encouraging passengers to provide their own masks it is initially providing them for passengers who do not have one.
However, Enviro-point vending machines are to be installed to provide the new Travel Safe Portable Hygiene Kits, should passengers require to purchase PPE for their journey.
Each pack – a reusable travel size pouch – contains two three-ply disposable face masks, two pairs of gloves, a packet of 10 disinfectant wipes, one 100ml hand sanitiser and has an introductory price of £7.50.
Enviro-point retail director Graeme Stewart said “As a business we have had to reassess and look for new innovative operational processes and products to comply with new safety measures surrounding Covid-19.
“The ethos behind the kits is to provide confidence to travellers and peace of mind that they are compliant with new safety measures to protect themselves and fellow travellers.”
Dean Ward, head of commercial at Newcastle Airport said: “The safety of our passengers and staff remains our number one priority. We have been working very hard to implement a new ‘Ten Point Plan’ to ensure the terminal is a safe environment for staff and passengers.
“Whilst we are encouraging all passengers to bring their own face masks to wear in the terminal, we’re aware some people may either forget or be unable to source a face mask.
“Enviro-point’s innovative new kits are an excellent addition and will provide passengers with additional peace of mind that enhanced PPE is available within the terminal should they require it.”
