Specialist hospitality firm appointed to manage Humber Royal Hotel

Grimsby’s Humber Royal Hotel is under new management.

The 58-bedroom venue and conference facility has been added to the Black and White Hospitality portfolio – which includes the Marco Pierre White franchise, having been co-founded by him.

It is described as an “expert hotel management company” with a track record of working with both independent and branded hotels.

The latter have included franchise operations with InterContinental Hotels Group, Hilton Worldwide and Wyndham Worldwide.

Closed since the coronavirus pandemic lockdown, the Little Coates Road site, which enjoys views over Grimsby Golf Club, is set to re-open on Thursday, October 1, according to posts on the social media account.

Bought out of administration in 2010 by Icon Hotels Ltd, it had a £1.75 million overhaul from what was the Hotel Elizabeth – which including reverting to the original name – with plans soon emerging to expand and add 40 more rooms and expand function facilities further.

However, with the offshore wind boom creating demand came previously lacking national supply, with Premier Inn, Hampton by Hilton and Holiday Inn all opening new hotels in the area, while the independent Healing Manor Hotel opened and brought rival conference facilities forward too, as did Stallingborough Grange.

Awarded four stars by VisitEngland, it has remained a top location for major events in the town, with one of the largest capacities on offer.

Black and White, founded in 2013 by chairman and chief executive Nick Taplin, alongside Pierre White, has around 50 venues in the UK and two restaurants in Abu Dhabi.

Partners include Lloyds Banking Group, Barclays, Coutts, Matthew Clark and Downing – an investment house with interests in Humber Royal Hotel.

No-one was immediately available at either Humber Royal Hotel or Black and White Hospitality for comment on plans.

Pierre-White is no stranger to the town, as a client and ambassador of Grimsby’s Alfred Enderby Traditionally Smoked Fish.
