Luxury holiday park group Haulfryn has appointed the former Homebase managing director as its new chief executive.
Haulfryn, founded in 1935, is a family-owned company which began with the Warren Holiday Resort in Abersoch, Gwynedd and now owns 14 parks in Wales and England.
It has announced that Echo Lu will take the reins of the company, which employs nearly 500 team members, on February 1.
Born and raised in China, Echo completed her military service and attained her first degree there, before moving to the USA to complete her Masters degree.
With an impressive CV spanning over 20 years, her general management experiences include COO for Tesco China, property director for Tesco UK/Ireland and later on managing director for Homebase and Holland & Barrett International.
Echo is currently a serving non-exec director of Coats Group plc and a Be Inspired Ambassador for Retail Week.
Outgoing CEO, Bobby McGhee, said: “Echo is a highly skilled executive with a great mix of operational excellence and performance improvement experience across multi-site businesses.
“With strategic analysis and insight alongside outstanding leadership skills, she will be an asset to Haulfryn and is well placed to take the company forward in the coming years.”
Following an exhaustive recruiting process, Echo was identified as the strongest candidate and one the Board felt would have the greatest empathy with a family company and Haulfryn’s style of business.
Mike Tye, executive chairman for Haulfryn, said: “On behalf of the entire Haulfryn Group I would like to thank Bobby for his long service and great dedication to the business and for helping to ensure that the Haulfryn name remains synonymous with quality. We all wish him the very best for the future.
“I would also like to extend a very warm welcome to Echo and we look forward to working together to build upon the successes of the Group in the years to come.”
Echo Lu said: “I am very excited to join the Haulfryn Group. The positive ethos of the company and the focus on long-term sustainable growth for the family shareholders really resonate with me.
“Bobby and the team have created a solid foundation for the company and I look forward to working with the Haulfryn staff, the Board, and our external partners to continue to build a successful and thriving business.”
