Jennifer Aniston has heard a lot of strange stories about herself over the years, but the one about her secretly dating Barack Obama might just take the cake.
In her new Vanity Fair cover interview, the Friends star laughed off the bizarre rumors that made the rounds online last year. “I don’t think anyone really pays attention to reports like that if you’re the subject of them,” she said.

Aniston revealed she’s met the former president just once and actually knows Michelle Obama far better. “I was lucky enough to have dinner with Michelle a month ago,” she shared, adding that their conversation didn’t include any mention of the made-up romance.
Her friend Sandra Bullock, who also took part in the Vanity Fair interview, couldn’t help but weigh in. “We try to figure out the genesis of where some of these stories come from… but 75 percent of the time, we just cannot,” she said. “They’re literally pulled out of the ether.”

Last year, Aniston revisited the topic on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Oct. 2, when Kimmel pulled out a tabloid cover splashed with the headline, “The Truth About Jen and Barack.”
She remembered her publicist calling with the dreaded “We need to talk” tone, only to find out the supposed scandal was… this. “I was not mad at it,” she admitted with a grin, before clarifying, “That is absolutely untrue.”
Meanwhile, the Obamas themselves have been chuckling at their own share of internet whispers. On The Light Podcast: In My Opinion, Michelle’s brother Craig teased, “Wait, you guys like each other?” Michelle smirked, calling it “the rumor mill,” while Barack joked, “She took me back. It was touch-and-go for a while.”
Michelle later reminded everyone, “We are 60, y’all… we don’t Instagram every minute of our lives.”
