A Leeds-based start-up fashion firm has introduced a limited-edition bag to its collection in celebration of Yorkshire Day on the 1st August 2018.
Established in 2015, Butterfly Tree will mark the region’s special day with a taster of its new all-leather range, which is due to launch in early 2019.
Handcrafted using locally sourced heritage leather, the Yorkshire Day bag will be available in limited numbers from 9th July 2018 and can be purchased from the Butterfly Tree website for £70.
10% of each bag sold will be donated to Yorkshire Children’s Trust; a local charity dedicated to helping children and their families cope with the emotional and financial strain of life-changing illnesses.
Founded by part-time ballet-teacher Claire Shakespeare, Butterfly Tree began at Claire’s kitchen table in Yorkshire, three years ago and has since expanded to larger premises to accommodate rapid growth.
The firm now operates out of AW Hainsworth’s mill in Stanningley; a textile manufacturer founded in 1783.
Yorkshire Day, which was first celebrated in 1975, is used to commemorate the region’s history and its residents.
Commenting on the limited-edition handbag, Claire said:
“The new collection for 2019, which will comprise of lots of different bags for different purposes, was inspired by traditional Yorkshire values. This county has been central to the textile industry throughout history and it is where the manufacturing of high quality fabrics is still thriving.
“It’s impossible to ignore an abundance of heritage whilst working here in Yorkshire and I wanted to the Yorkshire Day bag to reflect this; it’s a classic piece with a modern twist.

About Butterfly Tree
Launching in 2015, Butterfly Tree creates beautiful handcrafted bags from its headquarters in Leeds, Yorkshire. Using the finest quality and locally sourced wool and leather, Butterfly Tree produces timeless bags with stunningly unique designs.
Founded by part-time ballet teacher, Claire Shakespeare, Butterfly Bags started out with only the most basic equipment, at a kitchen table in Claire’s home. Through sheer grit and determination, Claire has built a successful and profitable business which represents high quality British fabric and attention to detail.
Claire’s business was born after having received positive feedback from friends and family around a knitting bag she had originally made for her mother-in-law for Christmas. Claire subsequently approached a local wool shop, Baa Ram Ewe, based in Chapel Allerton, who proceeded to order nine of Claire’s knitting bags.
Having worked with stockists across the country, including national retailer, John Lewis, the firm now has a wide range of products available and has plans to launch a new collection in early 2019.
Butterfly Tree bags feature clean and classic designs, matched with vibrant linings. Claire’s understanding of aesthetics and natural grasp of colours and shapes allow her to create simple but beautiful pieces which are now cherished and loved by many across the nation.
Claire’s mission is to create exquisite bags that last a lifetime; she is also keen to fly the flag for British made products. The bags are created using Yorkshire wool, supplied by the prestigious wool maker Abraham Moon and assembled at the famous A.W.Hainsworth Mill which was established in 1783.
