BA strike crisis: how to get a refund if your flight has been cancelled
British Airways has advised passengers not to travel to airports after strike action went into its second day

British Airways passengers face severe delays for the second day in a row after pilots walked out in a dispute over pay.
Thousands of passengers have been affected by a 48-hour strike which has seen more than 1,500 flights cancelled.
Many have been left stranded while others will lose money in hotel bookings they won’t be able to make.
Further strike action is planned for 27 September.
Why are BA pilots striking?
The strike is a result of a dispute between BA and pilots over pay.
BA has offered an 11.5% pay rise over three years but this has been turned down by the union.
The union says that this is not good enough and is demanding a bigger share of company profits for its members.
Getting a refund
BA has told passengers who are travelling on 10 September not to go to the airport after cancelling 100% of its flights.
It is offering all affected customers full refunds or the option to rebook to another date of travel or alternative airline.
To get a refund log on to BA’s Manage My Booking page by logging on with your booking reference number.
Passengers who booked a hotel through BA you will also get a refund.
If you have booked with a travel agent, you should contact them directly.
If your flight has not been cancelled you will not be entitled to a refund.
How do you rebook your flight?
You can rebook your flight by going to BA’s Manage My Booking page.

If your connecting flight is with another airline or you booked it with a travel agent, you will have to contact them directly.
Can you get compensation?
As customers were notified about the strike 14 days before it started they are not entitled to compensation according to European air passengers’ rights rules.
You may be able to claim back costs caused as a result of a delayed or cancelled flight – for example, accommodation costs or food and drink while waiting at an airport.
What should you do if you rebooked and found out you didn’t need to?
Some BA customers quickly rebooked their flights and accommodation when they heard about the strike but later found out they did not need to.
If you have done this contact BA and ask for the cost of any alternative travel arrangements to be refunded.
For some additional costs such as hotels or car hire you will not be entitled to a refund from BA.
Whether you are covered for these on your travel insurance will be determined by the conditions policy.
If you are covered and you bought your flight when the strike dates were not known you should be able to claim.
If you bought your travel insurance after the strike dates were known, it is likely your insurer will not pay out as you were fully aware.
