Five cows were well and truly shaken up after their trailer flipped on a dual carriageway.

It was connected to a truck that overturned in a crash on the A19, taking the trailer with it.

The cows were left upside down on the verge as they made their way from York to the market town of Easingwold.

Farmers joined police officers and firefighters to get the cows out of the trailer.

All five of them were udderly relieved after being freed and taken to safety.

This is not the first time cows have become the dramatic focus of chaos on the roads.

One cow, reportedly named Daisy, wreaked havoc on the M25 just under a month ago.

Daisy got through a fence and wandered onto the busy motorway on September 9.

The M25 was blocked for a whole hour while traffic officers and a farmer tried to get her to move away.

In another barnstorming story, just a month before Daisy’s great escape, around 30 cows stampeded drivers in Kent.

Breakdown technician Joe Clift filmed the animals while he was on the A2 in Coldred.

He said: ‘I was in pure shock because It’s really strange to see. It was like a weird dream. They were literally sprinting up the road.

‘When I noticed traffic had built up in front of me and cars had put their hazard lights on I stopped and left a big gap, and then about 30 cows emerged from the traffic.

‘There were a lot of big cows then there were little calves in between them as well, but they were all just running away from something and I was caught in the middle.’
