Commuters face severe delays on the London Paddington route this morning after an emergency incident closed railway lines.

All lines have been blocked between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminals and Reading following the incident.

The closure is wreaking havoc on the Elizabeth line, Great Western Railway (GWR) and Heathrow Express, with cancellations and severe delays expected throughout the morning.

National Rail said: ‘The emergency services are currently dealing with an incident between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminals / Reading. So that they can safely carry out their work, all lines have been closed.

‘Trains operating between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised as a result.

‘Major disruption is expected until 12:00.’

The TfL status alert says the emergency services are dealing with a casualty on the track.

The Elizabeth line is suspended between Paddington and Heathrow Terminals T4 and T5, and Reading.

The stretch between Paddington and Abbey Wood is seeing severe delays, the latest TfL travel status shows.

Passengers can use Elizabeth line tickets on other Underground services, London buses, South Western Railway services between Waterloo and Reading, Chiltern Railways, DLR, Southeastern between other London stations and Abbey Wood and Thameslink between Farringdon and Abbey Wood.

Great Western Railway said its services between Paddington and Reading may be cancelled this morning.

Alternative trains for GWR passengers include Avanti West Coast trains between Euston and Birmingham New Street, Chiltern Railways between Marylebone and Oxford, CrossCountry between Reading and Oxford, London Northwestern Railway between Euston and Birmingham New Street, and South Western Railway between Waterloo and Reading.

Metro has contacted the emergency services for a comment.

Meanwhile, the Northern line is suspended between Stockwell and Morden due to a signal failure at Balham. The rest of the Tube line has minor delays.
