From anthems of an emo generation to under-the-radar classics and more, many albums in 2005 empowered listeners through striking imagery and melodies.
Here are a few alternative rock albums from 2005 worth revisiting.
‘From Under the Cork Tree’ (Fall Out Boy)
Fall Out Boy’s second studio album produced some of the most enduring pop rock anthems of the decade in “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” and “Dance, Dance.” The band’s infamous song titles average about 10 words long for this album.

‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’ (Panic! at the Disco)
Panic! at the Disco’s debut was an instant hit. It spawned memorable singles, “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” and “Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off,” quickly cementing the band as a top name in the industry.

‘X&Y’ (Coldplay), ‘Get Behind Me Satan’ (The White Stripes)
These are not necessarily each band’s most celebrated records. Nevertheless, Coldplay had an all-timer in “Fix You” amid their hour-long experiment, while the White Stripes had bops like “Blue Orchid” and a range of hidden gems in their minimalist style.
‘Plans’ (Death Cab for Cutie)
“Plans” arguably launched Death Cab for Cutie to the world. From its melancholic opener “Marching Bands of Manhattan” to its eternal single “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” and more, the album transports you to a bittersweet, delicate youth.
‘Silent Alarm’ (Bloc Party)
Bloc Party’s influential debut blessed the world with energetic all-timers like “Banquet” and the contemplative anthem, “This Modern Love.”
