Anne Curtis to play lead role as journalist in new Mikhail Red thriller

Filipino filmmaker Mikhail Red is gearing up for his next feature, “Remote,” a gripping thriller, with acclaimed actress Anne Curtis in the lead role as a journalist.

Produced by Evolve Studios and Viva Films, production is set to begin later this year.

 In “Remote,” Curtis plays the role of Violet Olvido, a determined journalist who delves into a series of chilling murders linked to a mysterious international outsourcing company that hires remote workers, Variety exclusively reported.

Red revealed that the film is inspired by his own experiences within the remote work landscape during the pandemic.

Red told Variety, “Post-pandemic, there’s been a surge of online digital nomads, often working odd hours and navigating legal grey areas.”

He highlighted the vulnerability of many virtual assistants who often face exploitation. The film also challenges viewers to consider, “Who or what really controls us? It explores the colonization of consciousness and the weaponization of fear,” he said.

“This project revisits those ideas, but through the lens of psychological horror and paranoia,” Red shared. “It’s also my closest venture into the serial killer genre, which I’ve always wanted to tackle.”

Anne Curtis, set to mark her 30th year in the industry next year, recently starred in “The Loved One” alongside veteran actor Jericho Rosales.

The film, a heartbreaking portrayal of the end of a long-term relationship, hauled in ₱300 million at the box office. It also made headlines for its theme song, Cup of Joe’s “Multo,” considered one of the biggest OPM songs in the past year.
