Baby girl fighting for life after being attacked by ‘XL Bully’ dog
The incident happened at Siskin Close, in Hawkinge

A baby girl is fighting for her life in hospital after being bitten by an ‘XL Bully-type’ dog in Kent.

The eight-month-old baby was attacked in the town of Hawkinge, at around 2.30pm yesterday.

Police and emergency services swooped in at the scene of the incident at Siskin Close shortly after.

The infant was airlifted to a hospital in London, where she remains under medical care.

The little girl is the latest victim of an XL Bully breed type after dozens of people have been mauled in the last year.

It was just a week ago that 41-year-old mother, Michelle McLeod, was killed by an XL bully at her home in Aberdeen.

Which dog breeds are illegal in the UK?

On February 1, 2024, the XL Bully became the fifth breed to be banned in the UK.

The other banned breeds are Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Brasileiro.

They are managed by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Kent Police have since confirmed that the dog who attacked the girl was seized and later put down.

They identified the animal as a registered XL Bully breed type.

Two people have also been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control.

A spokesperson for the polcie said: ‘An 18-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control.

‘They remain in custody while enquiries continue.

‘Officers will remain in the area while enquiries are carried out and to provide reassurance to the local community.’
