BINI joins H.E.R., Lea Salonga, Sophia for ‘Forgotten Island’ soundtrack

LOS ANGELES – BINI is set to join H.E.R., Lea Salonga and Katseye’s Sophia Laforteza in a soundtrack collaboration for Dreamworks Animation’s upcoming film, “Forgotten Island.”

Fresh from their historic Coachella debut, BINI is contributing a new track titled “A Parallel World,” produced by composers Nathan Matthew David and Shawn Wasabi.

In an interview with Variety, Angela Leus – the Filipino American senior vice president of Film Music at Universal Pictures – said she emphasized the importance of authenticity in the film’s soundtrack when she first met with directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado.

“Joel and Jan had a very creative understanding of what the music was going to be, so it was very easy to come to them and say, ‘There’s this group called Bini — they’re amazing.’ It was a no-brainer and easy to get to that point,” she told Variety.

Filipino roots

Drawing from her roots in the Philippines and her parents’ musical influences, Leus aimed to honor both established and emerging Filipino artists.

“From the very beginning, I said, ‘I need to connect with every Filipino music creator out there,’” she said. “It required a deep dive and outreach to our community both in the Philippines and here.”

The movie will debut at next week’s Annecy Animation Film Festival before hitting theaters later this year. It follows best friends Jo and Raissa, voiced by H.E.R. and Liza Soberano, as they embark on one last adventure.

Their journey leads them into a night filled with shapeshifters, demons and witches, challenging their friendship as they navigate a magical portal to find their way back home.

Top talents Lea Salonga, Dolly de Leon, Manny Jacinto, Jo Koy and Amielynn Abrera are also in the cast.
