“[VMA] SONG OF THE FREAKING YEAR?!!?????!!!!!”

Blackpink member Rosé wrote in her Instagram post after she and Filipino American hitmaker Bruno Mars won Song of the Year at the MTV VMAs with their collaboration “APT.”

Onstage at the UBS Arena in New York, Rosé accepted the award on behalf of both artists, as the Fil-Am singer was unable to attend.

Fighting back tears, she described the win as not only a personal victory but also a milestone for others who dared to dream big.

“I’ve prepared something because I didn’t want to mess this up and I feel like this is a really big moment for myself and a lot of other people,” she said before pausing to collect her emotions.

Rosé expressed deep gratitude to Mars, calling him her “absolute idol and incredible teacher.” She added: “I love you so much. I hope you’re proud.”

The Blackpink singer also took a moment for self-reflection. “As my therapist tells me to do every day, I’d like to thank myself for not giving up even in the toughest of times. And always remember: You’ve got you.”

She admitted that winning Song of the Year carried a weight she hadn’t expected. Someone had recently asked her what her greatest fear in life was, and to her surprise, she realized it was the thought of letting down her younger self.

“I feared that somewhere along the way… I might hit a wall and possibly disappoint my 16-year-old self,” Rosé confessed. That teenage version of her, she explained, was an oddball who longed to one day be free to pursue her dreams just like the people she used to watch on television.

Rosé promised to call Mars after the ceremony, telling him in front of the audience, “Thank you so much for believing in me and helping me build this world together. I’m really, really, forever grateful for you and our friendship.”

It was also a triumphant night for Blackpink as a group, who won Best Group, while Lisa earned Best K-pop for “Born Again,” her collaboration with Doja Cat and Raye from her solo album Alter Ego.
