Body found in search for missing girl, 14, sparks murder investigation

A body has been found in the search for a missing 14-year-old girl and detectives have now launched a murder investigation.

Gwent Police made the discovery in the Duffryn Park area of Blaina at around 10.10pm on Monday.

Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of a missing schoolgirl, named only as Lilly, have been informed.

Lilly, from Blaina, was last seen on the High Street in the town at around 6.50pm on Saturday, June 20.

Detectives had described her as white, around 5ft 6ins tall, with a medium build and long black hair.

At that time she was said to have been wearing a long black dress and black sandals.

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas, said: ‘We understand that this will cause distress and concern amongst our communities.

‘We have a large police presence in the area at this time as enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the death.

‘Our officers are here and available for you to speak to.

‘We encourage anyone with information to please speak with us or you can contact us on the usual channels.’
