Members of the public are said to have pulled him from the water and brought him to the shore, where resuscitation started immediately by medical professionals who happened to be at the lake.

He was then airlifted to the Cantonal Hospital in Chur, Graubünden, located around 13 miles from the Alpine lake, where he died the same evening.

An investigation into the incident has been launched by the cantonal police and the public prosecutor’s office.
