Why does one of the biggest names in K-pop want to curate an art exhibition? For BTS leader RM, art has always been more than a private passion. It’s a bridge that connects worlds, cultures and generations.
That belief will soon take physical form as RM teams up with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) for a historic collaboration, becoming the first K-pop artist to curate an exhibition in the museum’s history.
SFMOMA announced just recently that the special exhibition, titled “RM x SFMOMA,” will open in October 2026 and run through February 2027.

The showcase will feature over 200 works, combining selections from RM’s personal art collection with pieces from the museum’s own archives.
Fans had already noticed something brewing when RM was spotted earlier this year exploring the museum and viewing the woven sculptures of local icon Ruth Asawa.
Now, that quiet visit has been revealed as part of preparations for what promises to be one of the most anticipated cultural crossovers of the decade.
“We live in an age defined by boundaries,” RM said in a statement. “This exhibition at SFMOMA reflects those boundaries: between East and West, Korea and America, the modern and the contemporary, the personal and the universal.”
He added that he hopes the show will invite audiences to explore art freely and that “this exhibition can be a small but sturdy bridge for many.”
RM will co-curate “RM x SFMOMA” with SFMOMA’s América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim. The display will highlight influential Korean artists such as Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rehyun, Kwon Okyon, Kim Yun Shin, To Sangbong and Chang Ucchin, whose works will be presented alongside global masters like Kim Whanki, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe and Paul Klee.
