SACRAMENTO, Calif.– Last-minute amendments to Senate Bill 1012 in the California legislature threaten to shift the massive costs of cleaning up oil industry wells to taxpayers. SB 1012, introduced by Senator Melissa Hurtado, would make changes to the California Public Resources Code that could make it more difficult for the state to recover the costs of well remediation from oil companies.
