The causes of death for two sisters pulled from the River Dee in Aberdeen have been confirmed after they vanished under mysterious circumstances.

Henrietta and Eliza Huszti, both 32 and part of a set of triplets, were last seen walking down the street around 2 am after leaving their shared flat on January 7.

Their death certificate has now confirmed the twin sisters died from drowning.

The morning before they disappeared, they also texted their landlord to tell her they would be giving up their flat, but not told relatives of their plan.

Their brother, Jozsef, previously told the BBC: ‘They wrote a message to their landlady that they wanted to immediately end their tenancy agreement. We didn’t have any information about that.

‘So that’s the strange thing, that the girls didn’t tell us anything about that.

‘They never mentioned any such plan.’

The two bodies were found in an area around half a mile apart, between the Victoria Bridge and Queen Elizabeth Bridge in Aberdeen.

Police previously revealed the sisters had visited the bridge a day before their disappearance.

Supt David Howieson, of Police Scotland, said: ‘The two bodies recovered from the River Dee on Friday, 31 January, have now been formally identified as Henrietta and Eliza Huszti.

‘Inquiries remain ongoing to establish the exact cause of death however there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.’

Henrietta and Eliza went missing during a particularly cold spell in Aberdeen.

In fact, in a phone call with their mother three days before they disappeared, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Three weeks after they went missing, the search was called off for fear they wouldn’t be found.
