A child has died in Wacker Quay, a popular beauty spot in Cornwall.

The unnamed child got into trouble in the waters of the River Lynher near Torpoint at around 6pm yesterday.

Paramedics trudged through the muddy terrain into the night to save the youngster, setting up floodlights along the shoreline.

But the child was declared dead at the scene, the police confirmed today.
