Circus performer shoots husband through the neck with arrow in front of live audience

A circus daredevil accidentally shot her own husband in the neck with a crossbow after a live performance went awry.

Ana Daza Tavera, 42, and Edwin Cuervo Rangel, 38, had been performing their famous crossbow sharpshooting act in front of a live audience in New York.

He had been holding up a foam target but she missed, accidentally striking him in the neck with the arrow.

Her husband was airlifted to a hospital in stable condition and the circus was cancelled for the night. It has now reopened minus the crossbow performance.

Benjamin Jackson, the ringmaster at Circus Murcia, said Mr Rangel was struck on the side of his neck in a spot with mostly soft tissue and no major blood vessels.

‘No blood leaking out. There was a little around the hole where the arrow went in, kind of like getting your ear pierced,’ he told reporters.

Cuervo Rangel was released from the hospital the next day after the arrow was safely removed and he received stitches.

His boss said he will need time before returning to the circus but was ‘walking around, talking, eating, enjoying life.;

‘On July 24, at approximately 9:30 p.m., troopers assigned to the Orange County Fair responded to a report of circus personnel being injured during a performance at the Orange County Fair located at 239 Wisner Avenue in the town of Wallkill.

‘The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from Middletown also responded.

‘The preliminary investigation revealed that circus personnel identified as Ana B. Daza Tavera, age 42, of Waukesha, WI, and Edwin A. Cuervo Rangel, age 38, of Waukesha, WI, were performing a show for spectators during which Daza Tavera shot an arrow at a foam target that Cuervo Rangel was holding.

‘The arrow struck Cuervo Rangel, injuring him.

‘Cuervo Rangel was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in stable condition.

‘The investigation is ongoing.’
