A father has been busted for allegedly leaving an AR-style rifle that his nine-year-old son used to fatally shoot his five-year-old daughter.
Irvin Ramos-Jimenez, 33, left his rifle high on a shelf in the close of his son’s bedroom, according to Maricopa County Police.
The young boy accidentally shot his sister, Layla Ramos, in the torso at night on June 3.
Layla’s family took her to a psychiatric hospital and she was transferred to a trauma hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
First responders received a call to the psychiatric hospital for a stabbing. But investigators determined that Layla had been shot.
The dad reportedly went home afterward to watch over his other children that he left at his home with the rifle.
Ramos-Jimenez has been charged with one count of child abuse, one class three dangerous felony and a domestic violence offense.
