Filipino singer-songwriter Denise Julia defended BINI after the P-pop girl group became the subject of disparaging remarks online following news of their participation in the 2027 Grammy Awards.
The singer took to X (formerly Twitter) on Oct. 9 after a social media user questioned whether Filipinos could submit entries to, or win, a Grammy, prompting her to push back against what she described as an unfair dismissal of Filipino talent.
Rather than focusing solely on BINI or the awards, Denise argued that the conversation should center on the Philippines’ long history of producing gifted performers.
please do not ever question filipinos and their talent because you could find a kid on any random street in the philippines who could outsing, outdance, and outperform even without access to proper training or resources. we’ve never been short of talent, and this isn’t about competing with other countries or seeking their validation. it’s about recognizing the wealth of talent we’ve always had and creating more opportunities for it to thrive. filipino talent has always deserved a bigger stage, and that recognition is long overdue.

She urged critics not to underestimate Filipino artists, saying one could find “a kid on any random street in the Philippines who could outsing, outdance, and outperform even without access to proper training or resources.”

She stressed that the country has never lacked talent and said the discussion should not be about competing with other nations or seeking international validation.

Instead, she argued, it should focus on recognizing the Philippines’ wealth of talent, creating more opportunities for artists to thrive, and acknowledging that “Filipino talent has always deserved a bigger stage, and that recognition is long overdue.”
The US-based artist’s remarks followed BINI’s reported participation in the 2027 Grammy Awards, which sparked online debate, with some social media users questioning whether Filipino acts belonged on music’s biggest international stage.
While some comments questioned the group’s chances of earning recognition, fans and fellow artists rallied behind BINI, pointing to the group’s achievements and the growing global reach of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).
