‘Devoted and loving’ dad-of-one raped by passenger after dying on train

A man whose body was sexually abused after he died on the New York subway ‘wasn’t just a random person’, his ex-wife said as she paid tribute to him as a devoted father.

Jorge Gonzalez, 37, was found dead on an R train in Manhattan last week. His cause of death remains a mystery, with further tests ongoing.

Police are hunting three people – including a man said to have been caught on security footage having sex with his corpse.

They also want to speak with a woman who rifled his pockets after he lost consciousness.

Mr Gonzalez was remembered as a committed family man with ‘so many dreams’ before he died.

‘He wasn’t just a random person, he was a father, he was a family man, he cared about his family in Mexico,’ his ex-wife Teresa, who had been separated from him for around six years, said.

‘That’s what I want to remember.

‘He was a person, and he was somebody who had people that love him, who have people that miss him and have people who would have wanted something better for him.’

Speaking to the New York Post, she revealed Mr Gonzalez ‘had been battling with alcoholism’ and associated health conditions but still worked several jobs to provide for his family.

However, those struggles often overcame him, leaving him to wander the city’s subway system.

There is a manhunt underway for a yellow-hooded suspect and police officers have released footage of the accused necrophiliac.

Officials say they have CCTV of the man entering the carriage in a Manhattan train station on Tuesday evening.

Within 45 minutes, he saw the dead man and allegedly began to rummage through his pockets.

It is then alleged he began to sexually assault the corpse before getting off the train and fleeing at Whitehall Street subway station.

Teresa said of the suspect: ‘I want to see him caught.

‘I don’t understand what’s going through this person’s mind to do something like that to a lifeless body. I want this person off the streets.

‘I mean if he’s willing to do that, what else is he willing to do?’
