LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Tuesday it is investigating a sexual assault allegation against imprisoned music mogul Sean “Diddy Combs.
According to the department, it received a report from the Largo, Florida, police department on Friday, and the agency’s Special Victims Bureau was investigating the allegations, which were initiated by a music producer who anonymously sued Combs in Los Angeles in July but went public last month as the plaintiff in the case.
The lawsuit by Jonathan Hay accuses Combs of sexual misconduct during a pair of encounters in the Los Angeles area in the early 2020s Combs’ civil attorney, Jonathan Davis, issued a statement in response to Hay’s allegations, saying, “As Mr. Combs’ legal team has repeatedly stated for over a year now, he cannot address every meritless allegation in what has become a media circus. Let me make it absolutely clear, Mr. Combs categorically denies as false and defamatory all claims that he sexually abused anyone. He looks forward to vindicating himself in court, where such matters are decided —
and not in the media — based on admissible, material evidence, not rank speculation and unsubstantiated allegations.”
Combs was convicted in New York in July of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and is serving 50 months in prison.
In an October interview with the online outlet Shock Ya, Hay said he decided to go public as the plaintiff in the lawsuit because he is “pushing for criminal charges.”
“I want all Diddy’s victims to have justice,” he said. “For me, it was the right thing to do. Having a voice is important.”
According to Hay’s Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit, he went to a Los Angeles-area warehouse in late 2020 with Combs and other associates where clothing that belonged to the late rapper Notorious B.I.G. was being stored ahead of it being donated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At some point, Combs provided drugs to “everyone present,” according to the suit, and later told Hay to put on some of the clothes.
The lawsuit alleges that Combs then began to masturbate with one of Biggie’s shirts in front of the plaintiff, and when he finished, he threw the shift at the plaintiff, laughed and said “R.I.P. Biggie” as he left the room.
Hay claims that subsequent to that encounter, Biggie’s son, Christopher Wallace Jr., and music producer Willie Mack met with the plaintiff on a pretense of apologizing for the earlier incident and establishing a business relationship.
According to the suit, however, Hay’s head was covered and he was moved to a room with Combs, who yelled at the plaintiff and tried to force him “to perform oral copulation on Combs while plaintiff’s head was still covered …”
Hay’s civil attorney, Gary Dordick, told the Los Angeles Times, “We intend to present our client’s case to a jury in California and we are confident that the truth will prevail.” (CNS)
