BURBANK – Burbank-based Walt Disney Co. and TikTok announced Wednesday a global partnership that will bring fan-created short-form videos inspired by Disney films and television shows
The companies described the agreement as the first global collaboration of its kind between a major entertainment studio and a social media platform. The program will launch as a U.S. pilot before expanding internationally.
Disney said that under the agreement, participating TikTok creators who opt into the program will have eligible Disney-related videos featured on TikTok and in a new vertical-video section on Disney+.
The curated content will feature videos inspired by Disney brands including Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. Participating creators will have access to assets tied to hundreds of films and television series from the company’s library, Disney said.
“The best storytellers are fans first,” Asad Ayaz, Disney’s chief marketing and brand officer, said. “That has always been true at Disney, and today, fans are celebrating our stories in entirely new ways.
This collaboration creates a new bridge between the stories we tell and the creativity they inspire.”
Dawn Yang, TikTok’s global head of entertainment, said creators have become an increasingly important part of how audiences engage with film and television.
“Together with Disney, we’re bringing the authentic creator expression of the TikTok community to Disney+, inviting audiences to experience the shared creativity that makes fandom so powerful,” Yang said.
The partnership also includes a Disney Creator Ambassador Program that will provide selected creators with increased visibility, access to exclusive events and career development opportunities, officials said. (CNS)
