A popular chocolate previously sold at UK supermarkets and on Amazon has been urgently recalled over fears of salmonella contamination.
World of Sweets this week recalled two of its chocolate products after detecting salmonella, which can cause severe illness.
The two products affected are still being sold on Amazon.
The recall notice confirms that the chocolates with all best before dates have been affected by the recall.

The chocolates recalled are:
- Alyan Dubai Style Chocolate Truffles, 120g
- Alyan Dubai Style Crunchy Knafeh and Pistachio Milk Chocolate, 100g
Customers who have bought the products have been told by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to not eat them and instead return the chocolate to the store where it was bought for a full refund.
Anyone who purchased the chocolate directly from World of Sweets has been asked to contact the company’s customer service team with your order number and the number of affected units. They will advise you on your next steps.
What is salmonella?
Salmonella is a bacteria which is spread via contaminated food such as eggs, poultry, meat, unpasteurised dairy products and fresh produce.
Consumption can result in an infection called salmonellosis, which can be fatal.
Typical symptoms of salmonella infection can include diarrhoea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever.
But for those who are particularly vulnerable – such as young children, older adults and immunocompromised people – it can result in more severe illness such as blood stream infection and sepsis.
The particular variation of salmonella in the current outbreak is S. Enteritidis, the most common type in England.
The FSA said in its risk statement: ‘The presence of salmonella in the products listed above.
‘Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.’
The recall comes as a salmonella infection linked to imported eggs in England has caused hundreds to fall ill and one person to die over the summer.
