Donald Trump has said he scrapped sending his negotiators to Pakistan for the Iran peace talks.

The US president said he cancelled the US envoy Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff’s trip to Islamabad to talk with the Iranians.

Speaking to Fox News, the president said today that there was no point for the team to travel to Pakistan because ‘we have all the cards.

The 79-year-old said: ‘I’ve told my people a little while ago they were getting ready to leave, and I said, ‘Nope, you’re not making an 18 hour flight to go there. We have all the cards.

He then confirmed the decision in a post on Truth Social, saying he cancelled the representatives’ trip because of ‘too much time wasted on travelling, too much work.’

Trump wrote in the post: ‘Besides which, there is tremendous infighting and confusion within their “leadership.” Nobody knows who is in charge, including them. Also, we have all the cards, they have none!’

Trump also told Axios news that the axing of the trip does not mean the US will resume attacks on Iran.

It comes after the Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi left Islamabad after high-level meetings where he delivered Tehran’s list of conditions for ending the war.

In Lebanon, fighting has reportedly continued between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants despite a ceasefire.

Lebanon’s health ministry said the death toll from Israeli attacks has mounted to 2,496 since March 2.

A further 7,725 people have been injured, it said.

The war in Iran which was started by the US and Israel on February 28 has hit consumers around the world after oil prices have skyrocketed.

This has had a knock-on impact on fuel, food and consumer technology prices.
