President Donald Trump has blamed Iran and threatened ‘dire’ consequences for attacks from Yemen’s Houthi terrorists.
‘Let nobody be fooled!’ wrote Trump on his Truth Social platform on Monday morning.
‘The hundreds of attacks being made by Houthi, the sinister mobsters and thugs based in Yemen, who are hated by the Yemeni people, all emanate from, and are created by, IRAN.’
Trump declared: ‘Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!’
His warning came two days after the US carried out air and naval strikes on dozens of targets controlled by Iranian-backed Houthi fighters in response to the terrorist group’s attacks on shipping lanes in the Red Sea.
The strikes that began on Saturday have killed at least 31 people and injured more than 100 others, and are expected to continue for days or weeks.
‘Any further attack or retaliation by the “Houthis” will be met with great force, and there is no guarantee that that force will stop there,’ Trump wrote.
‘Iran has played “the innocent victim” of rogue terrorists from which they’ve lost control, but they haven’t lost control.’
Trump accused Iran of ‘dictating every move’ and providing the Houthis with military equipment, money and ‘intelligence’.
On Sunday, the top Commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, stated that the Houthis are independent and call their own decisions.
‘We warn our enemies that Iran will respond decisively and destructively if they take their threats into action,’ he told state media.
The victims are mostly women and children, said the spokesperson for the Houthi-run health ministry, Anees al-Asbahi.
The strikes are the largest US military campaign in the Middle East since Trump began his second term.
On Monday, tens of thousands of protesters in rebel-held Yemen held rallies against the US, called by Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi.
Demonstrators chanted ‘death to America, death to Israel’ and held rifles and signs at the capital Sanaa. Protests also broke out in Amran, Dhamar, Hodeida and Saada.
The protests coincide with the anniversary of the Battle of Badr, which was a military victory by Prophet Mohammed. The Sanaa demonstrators shouted: ‘We are the men of the Prophet.’
