President Donald Trump has broken his silence on the release of his alleged birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein with a short and angry remark.
Trump largely declined to speak on a copy of a note shared by House Democrats with the outline of a naked woman and what appears to be his signature. But not without denying again that he had any hand in it.
‘I don’t comment on something that’s a dead issue,’ Trump told NBC News
‘I gave all comments to the staff.
‘It’s a dead issue.’
The Epstein estate provided the letter to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Monday and House Democrats posted it on X, saying, ‘Trump talks about a “wonderful secret” the two of them shared. What is he hiding? Release the files!’
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday said that forensic analysts have determined that the letter was not signed by Trump.
‘It absolutely was not the president’s authentic signature and we have maintained that position all along,’ she said during a news briefing.
‘The president did not write this letter, he did not sign this letter, and that’s why the president’s external legal team is aggressively pursuing litigation against The Wall Street Journal.’
Trump has been furious since The Journal in mid-July first published a report claiming that he gave a letter to Epstein for his 50th birthday with words inside the sketch of a woman’s body.
A book of letters including the one Trump denies making was handed over to the congressionalcommittee amid a continued bipartisan call for all of the Epstein files to be released.
