Four people including a child were seriously injured after a car ploughed into a group of pedestrians.
One woman has suffered potentially life threatening injuries after the vehicle drove into the group on Woodgate Avenue and Whitworth Road in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, this afternoon.
The driver, a 49-year-old male, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The incident is not being treated as terror related, police have confirmed.
Three of the victims were taken to hospital from Woodgate Avenue with ‘serious injuries’.
Meanwhile the more severely injured woman was airlifted from Whitworth Road.
Assistant Chief Constable John Webster of Greater Manchester Police said: ‘We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred in Rochdale today.
‘Our officers are supporting the victims and their families at this time.
‘We believe this to be an isolated incident with one lone offender arrested and in hospital.
‘Additional resources will remain deployed to the local area, please speak to officers if you have any concerns.
‘We are working tirelessly to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of our community.
‘We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in our efforts. We will provide updates as more details become available.’
