Eight children aged from one to 14 have been killed in a ‘domestic disturbance’ in Louisiana.
The suspected killer, who is believed to be related to some of the victims, was shot dead by police at around 6am on Sunday in Shreveport.
Police chief Wayne Smith said a total of 10 people shot with the youngest being aged just one.
Officials said they were still gathering details about the crime scene, which extended across three locations.
Mr Smith said the suspected killer was shot dead by police during a vehicle chase.
‘This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen,’ he added.
Louisiana State Police said their detectives have been asked by Shreveport police to investigate.
In a statement, state police said no officers were harmed in the shooting that followed a police pursuit into Bossier City on Sunday morning.
State police are asking anyone with pictures, video or information to share it with detectives.
