Elizabeth line closed into Heathrow Airport after fire breaks out near track

Tube and rail services to Heathrow Airport were suspended after a trackside fire.

Passengers travelling on the Elizabeth line and Heathrow Express face travel disruption this morning after a fire next to the track.

Journeys between Heathrow Terminals and London Paddington could be cancelled or delayed by 30 minutes, National Rail warns.

• Heathrow Express between Heathrow Terminal 5 and London Paddington

Frustrated passengers took to social media after the disruption this morning.

One wrote on X: ‘Why can’t the Elizabeth line work fully!!’

A Network Rail spokesperson told Metro: ‘We’re sorry for the disruption to services between Heathrow Terminals and London Paddington.

‘This was due to a trackside fire earlier this morning in the Heathrow area, which has now been extinguished.

‘The lines have reopened, but while train times return to normal we’d advise passengers to check National Rail Enquiries or their train operator for the latest travel updates.’

Meanwhile, the Jubilee line is experiencing severe delays on the entire line, the latest TfL travel status update shows.

This is due to an earlier faulty train. Tickets can be used on buses, Overground and DLR.

Travelling on the Tube during warm weather can be far from a breeze as we approach the hottest day of the year so far.

The hottest Tube line is the Victoria line, which had an average temperature of 28°C in 2023, according to TfL figures.

Average temperatures on the Central line – known to be tropical in the summer months – hovered at 27°C.

What about the coolest Tube lines?

These are thought to be the Jubilee and Waterloo & City lines, which recorded average temperatures of 22°C and 21°C respectively. The Overground is also usually cooler than many Underground lines.
