Filipino talent proudly represented on the international stage as three Fil-Am actresses from the hit medical drama “The Pitt“ celebrated a major victory at this year’s Actor Awards, the ceremony formerly recognized as the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Cast members Isa Briones, Kristin Villanueva and Amielynn Abellera joined their fellow performers in accepting the award for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.” The award recognizes the collective chemistry and storytelling strength of an entire cast rather than individual performances.

Daughter of an immigrant

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the awards ceremony, she expressed her joy at the achievement. “I’m the daughter of an immigrant,” she said. ”I’m here and I have my dad with me and it’s just the most special.”

Her father, veteran performer Jon Jon Briones, attended the ceremony. He highlighted the overwhelming support from Filipino audiences, saying, “Everyone in the Philippines right now is crying and their hearts are full and very proud of [her].”

“When we have opportunity to show who we are, you have to take that moment to celebrate it to the fullest. Because unfortunately it doesn’t come very often. And we’re here [saying], ‘No, there needs to be more of this.‘“

The father-daughter duo brought Filipino culture into the narrative of “The Pitt.”

Visayan lullaby

In a memorable episode aired on Feb. 19, during the show’s second season, Isa’s character Dr. Trinity Santos gently sang the traditional Visayan lullaby “Ili-Ili, Tulog Anay” to an abandoned newborn referred to as “Baby Jane Doe.”

While preparing for the episode, she reached out to her father for guidance on what song her character could sing. He suggested the traditional Hiligaynon lullaby.
