Three Filipino films were among the big winners and nominees at the 2025 SOHO International Film Festival in New York City.
The 16th edition of the annual festival held its Awards Night Gala on Oct. 13, with the judges deliberating on a lineup of over a hundred films representing more than 20 countries.
‘Faith Healers’
Winning the Audience Award for Feature Film was “Faith Healers” by Regina Aquino, a documentary about Filipino doctors leaving their home country to work in the US.
Aquino, a Filipino American actor, producer, and director, aims to ensure the representation of the Filipino American experience through her production company Origin Stories.
“Faith Healers” also earned a nomination for Best Showcase Documentary Feature Film.

‘ILAW’ and ‘Song of the Fireflies’
Meanwhile, “ILAW” by Nestor Malgapo Jr and “Song of the Fireflies” by King Palisoc also earned nominations for Audience Award for Feature Film, Best World Showcase Feature Film and Best Acting Performance in a Leading Role – World Feature.
Actors Dex Castro and Morisette were spotlighted for their performances in “ILAW” and “Song of the Fireflies,” respectively.
The next US screening for “Song of the Fireflies” takes place Oct. 22 at Starlight Triangle Cinemas in Costa Mesa, California.
