From a small town in Lanao del Norte, where he attended high school, to the hallowed halls of Yale University, Filipino student Nathan Wayne F. Ariston has carved a path to educational success.

The Philippine Science High School – Central Mindanao Campus (Pisay-CMC) alumnus recently graduated cum laude from the Ivy League university, completing dual degrees in physics and mathematics.

A child of humble beginnings, born to a farmer and a public school teacher, according to a statement from  DOST-Philippine Science High School System, his story echoes the triumph of perseverance, brilliance and a strong sense of purpose.

The DOST-Philippine Science High School System expressed its pride in a statement, celebrating Ariston’s academic milestone, writing, “Congratulations, Nathan! Your Pisay family are beyond proud. May your journey continue to inspire young minds to dream bigger than their circumstances and rise beyond every challenge.”

Adding to his list of accomplishments, Ariston received the Howard L. Schultz Prize, an award granted to the Yale student who best demonstrates the “excellence, inventiveness, and good taste in experimental physics” that defined Professor Schultz’s legacy, particularly in the realm of atom-smashing devices and the Yale linear accelerator.

Before setting foot at Yale, the Filipino scholar had already earned international recognition in competitions related to earth science and chemistry. 

While Nathan has joined the ranks of Ivy League achievers, his heart remains grounded in his roots. As a proud member of the Teduray indigenous group, he carries with him the rich cultural heritage of Mindanao and a deep commitment to his community.
