Met PC who lied about sex attack because she was late to work is back in jail

A former Met Police officer has had her prison sentence doubled after she lied that a colleague sexually assaulted her when she was actually just running late.

Lauren Evans, 35, claimed that she had been pulled over and subjected to an intimate body search on the A20 in south-east London in March 2023.

A fellow Met Police officer was identified as having been on the same dual carriageway at the time, and he was arrested in front of his wife and children.

He spent a night in the cells and was suspended from duty until CCTV and number plate recognition footage proved that no such stop had taken place.

Evans, who was based at Bromley Police Station and was dismissed without notice in January, sent a message to senior officers saying: ‘I’ve just been pulled over!!’

She repeated the allegation after arriving at work, despite having made it there on time.

She gave a detailed and emotional statement about being stopped by a man in an unmarked car who said he was from Kent Police and then searched her.

What followed was an investigation that took 1,500 hours of police work and involved more than 30 detectives.

Southwark Crown Court heard that this was a lie that had ‘snowballed out of control’.

Evans, from Maidstone, was jailed for a year on March 2 after being found guilty of perverting the course of justice.

The case was referred to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence Scheme and her sentence was increased to two years.

As she had already been released from prison, she has now been ordered to return.
