Four people have been taken to hospital after being stabbed on a busy high street in south London.

Police and paramedics were called to Bromley High Street shortly before 2.30pm today following reports of a knife attack.

One of those wounded in the ‘altercation’ is in a critical condition, the Met said, with the three others being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Seven men have been arrested and remain in custody.

Photos taken at the scene show crowds of shoppers gathering by a police cordon.

One, Matt Farrington-Smith, told Metro: I’ve never seen so many fire engines and police cars and police in my life, they were all over the place.

‘You can’t get any further than the TK Maxx towards the high street if you come out of Bromley South station.

‘It’s chaos.

‘Police weren’t saying what was going on but redirecting everyone as lots of roads were blocked off.

‘I saw so many police at all different junctions, and then I walked past two individuals being arrested as well.

‘It has been a mission to find a road open that I can walk down to get home.’

The Met Police said: ‘At around 2.15pm on Thursday, September 10, officers were called to reports of an altercation on Bromley High Street.

‘Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance and found four men with stab wounds.

‘Three of them were taken to hospital where they are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. One is in critical condition.

‘Seven men were arrested and they all remain in custody.

‘Police enquiries continue and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the public.’

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 2:19pm today to reports of a stabbing on Bromley High Street.

‘We sent ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

‘We treated four patients at the scene and took them all to hospital.’
