Full list of store closures in July 2025 from Poundland to New Look and River Island

British high streets are facing even more shop closures this year, with dozens of shops set to shut in July.

From fashion chain New Look to popular bank Santander, further closures have been confirmed for this month.

Shoppers might enjoy the closing-down sales in the short term, but the move is likely to deal another blow to struggling UK high streets.

78 bank branches are about to close from four banking giants – NatWest, 

More Poundland stores are about to close after the chain was acquired for £1 in a rescue deal.

The bargain chain’s 16,000 staff face an uncertain future as it negotiates with landlords to reduce rents amid tough trading conditions.

In the six months leading up to March, Poundland reported a 6.5% slump in revenue to £830million.

NatWest told Metro the closures are because of majority of its current account customers use digital services.

A spokesperson said NatWest is investing in its ‘shared solutions like the Post Office and Banking Hubs.’

A spokesperson invited customers to ‘continue to shop with us at our nearby Basildon store’, adding: ‘We would like to thank all of our colleagues and the local community for their support over the years.’

The majority of their store closures will be seen in Ireland, however.

Fashion giant River Island has also been planning to trim its high street presence for some time, but it reportedly increased the number of planned closures after the Autumn budget last year.

Toy shops haven’t been spared either. Hamleys has been trading for 265 years and is one of the most easily recognisable British toy brands, more than 100 UK and international branches.

But the brand is set to close 29 of its shops this year after profits dipped outside of the UK.

Companies House data showed Hamley’s profits rose in the 2024 financial year, from £51.4million to £53.3million.

Hamleys has not yet confirmed which of its branches will close, or how many staff will be affected.
