An active shooter has been reported on Florida State University’s campus, with students told to shelter in place.
An alert was sent out to all students and staff at the university in Tallahassee, Florida, at 12.02 pm local time.
‘An active shooter has been reported in the area of the Student Union. Police are on scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions.
‘Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures,’ it read.
A large law enforcement presence is on campus, with unofficial reports claiming some are wounded.
‘Daughter is saying she heard gunshots, 20 of them. Tons of law enforcement. People are running from the union,’ a mum of a student wrote on X.
Metro has contacted local police and witnesses.
An employee who works in the Bellamy Building on campus, which houses the College of Social Science and Public Policy, told the Tallahassee Democrat the building was locked down and law enforcement was evacuating people floor by floor.
