Half naked man tries to throw drugs over prison wall but fails three times

A man’s not-so-smooth attempt to sling drugs inside a prison ended in an epic fail after he was caught red-handed.

Shirtless Joshua Smith, 30, tried to throw drugs worth £12,000 inside HMP Hull in East Yorkshire using his bare hands.

But the repeated attempts landed him in jail instead after the brazen move on July 11 last year was quickly spotted by prison guards.

Footage shows half-naked Smith charge from across the road at the blue metal fence and throw a package, which hits the prison’s brick wall.

Clutching his shirt, he then hurries through the gates into the car park and picks up the drug parcel, slinging it again, however, in vain, as it bounces back.

After his third failed throw, the man manages to land it over the barbed wire and leaves the scene.

But a prison guard saw the parcel fall over the wall and reported it to the police.

The package was revealed to contain a mix of Class A and B drugs and a mobile phone.

Smith, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to three years and eight months in jail at Hull Crown Court on Monday after pleading guilty to two counts of throwing a prohibited item into a prison.

Detective Constable Heather Butler said: Following the report from the prison an investigation into the contents of the package and how it arrived at the prison was launched.

‘The package was analyzed leading to the discovery of an estimated £12,000 of drugs including Class A drugs and a mobile phone.

‘CCTV was acquired from the outside of the prison showing a man appearing to make several unsuccessful and a final successful attempt to throw a package over the prison wall shortly before the prison officer located the package inside the prison.’

She added: ‘Smith made the decision to facilitate dangerous drugs entering the prison, this behavior will not be tolerated, and we continue to work closely with HM Prison Service to ensure those who engage in this type of crime are held accountable.

‘Thankfully on this occasion the package was found almost instantly and never reached its intended destination, however these drugs could have had catastrophic consequences and facilitating drugs entering a prison is a criminal offense.’

Some criminals have resorted to very 21st-century methods when trying to smuggle drugs inside prisons – drones.

Prison officers have said they have seen criminal gangs resort to the aircraft to deliver drugs, weapons and even takeaways inside the clink.
