‘Heroic’ train worker in Huntingdon train knife attack no longer in critical condition

A ‘heroic’ rail worker who tried to stop a knife attacker as he carried out the Huntingdon train knife attack is now in ‘stable’ condition.

The attack on Saturday evening saw a knifeman on a London-bound train go on a stabbing rampage, injuring 11 people.

The Doncaster to London King’s Cross train was forced to make an emergency stop in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

This was thanks to LNER worker Andrew Johnson, who contacted the control room to get the train diverted from the fast track to the slow track.

But he was among the people critically injured in the attack and remained in life-threatening condition in the early hours today.

But Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander told SkyNews this morning that she was ‘pleased to say’ that the former Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy is no longer in a life-threatening condition.

Alexander added: ‘He went into work that morning to work on that train service, to serve passengers, and he put himself in harm’s way. 

‘He went in to do his job, and he left work a hero. And there are people who are alive today because of his actions and his bravery.’
