“A little pregnant angel.”
That’s how judge Sofia Vergara fondly described her Golden Buzzer pick, Jessica Sanchez, after the powerhouse singer stunned the America’s Got Talent audience in the finals.
Nine months pregnant and still fearless on stage, the Filipino American singer transformed Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ ballad “Die With A Smile” into a breathtaking moment that had the crowd on their feet.
The performance earned Sanchez a standing ovation and positive remarks from the panel. Vergara, beaming with pride, added, “Your voice, I haven’t heard anything like that. Bravo, Jessica.”
Judge Mel B highlighted the emotional connection Sanchez brings to her music, saying, “I feel like everything you are singing, you kind of bring us into your world more and more. You give us more emotion, more passion. No matter what song you sing your vocals are just flawless, pitch perfect every single time.”
Simon Cowell went even further, declaring her performance the best of the night.
“It was so important for our 20th anniversary that you came back,” Cowell said, stressing that Sanchez embodies resilience for artists who don’t win the first time around. “You sound amazing. I think it was the best performance we’ve heard so far.”
Backstage, Sanchez admitted she was nervous but overwhelmed with gratitude. “I think I’m feeling all the feels. I’m definitely a little nervous. I am so close to my due date, so that’s a little crazy but I’m also super excited. And like I said, just to be here 9 months pregnant, this is like kinda once in a lifetime kind of thing so I’m super, super excited,” she said.
Despite facing tough competition, Sanchez said she is honored simply to stand alongside the other finalists. “There’s so many amazing talents and I’m just honored to be on the stage, sharing it with them. I just hope to give America the best that I got for the finale,” she added.
