As Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray once said, “you are never denied, only redirected.” That redirection has found its perfect moment for Filipino American powerhouse singer Jessica Sanchez, who emerged as this season’s America’s Got Talent (AGT) champion.
Just hours after the finale, Sanchez went live to share her emotions with fans. She described the moment as “crazy,” admitting she hadn’t even rewatched the finals yet but already knew she was “a complete mess on stage, emotionally.”

She recalled how adrenaline carried her through interviews right after the show before she finally slipped into her pajamas to “soak it all in.”
At home with her husband, she confessed she would probably “weep some more,” but above all, she emphasized, “I wanna thank you guys so much for voting for me, for believing in me.”

Her words mirrored the emotion that poured out on stage during the live finale, where she broke into tears after being announced as the winner. “I’m sorry for getting so emotional. This is amazing, thank you so much,” she told the cheering crowd.
Perseverance
For Sanchez, it is the culmination of years of perseverance. She first entered the AGT stage at just 10 years old, reaching the semifinals during the show’s very first season. Six years later, she came so close again as the runner-up on American Idol Season 11, finishing behind Phillip Phillips.
This time, however, the story ends differently. Her powerhouse rendition of Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s “Die With a Smile” sealed her win, earning a standing ovation from the judges and audience.
Judge Sofía Vergara, who had awarded Sanchez the coveted Golden Buzzer earlier in the season, was visibly proud of her finale triumph.
Her mother, Edita, also shared her joy in a reaction video, saying, “I’m so very proud of her. That she is going after her dream again.”
