Raising her voice from afar, Katseye’s leader and Filipina member Sophia Laforteza declared her support for Filipinos who filled the streets on Sept. 21 to protest against government corruption.
Though not physically present at the rallies, the global pop star made it clear where her heart lies.
“My heart is with my people. We all deserve a future built on truth, integrity, and hope,” Laforteza wrote in her Instagram story. She also emphasized in Filipino, “Para sa ating bansa at para sa sambayanang Pilipino (For our country and for the Filipino people) we must always strive for what is just and fair.”
In her message, Laforteza reflected on the collective dream of “a Philippines free from corruption, where accountability and compassion guide us forward.”
While acknowledging her absence, she assured rallyists that she is still part of the movement, adding, “The voice of the Filipino people is powerful and unshakable. Even if I cannot be present in today’s rallies, I am listening; I am aware, and I stand with you.”
The Sept. 21 protests in the Philippines, which coincided with the 53rd anniversary of martial law, were spearheaded by student organizations and activist groups.
Under the banners “Baha sa Luneta: Aksyon na Laban sa Korapsyon” and the Trillion Peso March, thousands of Filipinos gathered at Luneta Park and EDSA to condemn alleged corruption in flood control programs involving top government officials.
The demonstrations also drew the participation of prominent personalities.
Actress Maris Racal led chants with the crowd while Elijah Canlas delivered a speech on stage. Vice Ganda challenged the President to take action against corrupt officials and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray lent her voice of support.
Katseye, the global girl group Laforteza leads, recently celebrated their highest Billboard rankings to date with the success of their single “Gabriela.”
The group is also preparing for a milestone performance at the 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where they will share the stage with trailblazers including the Philippines’ very own BINI.
