Kuya Kim Atienza asked if he can be “mayabang” (boastful) as he proudly celebrated his daughter’s graduation from the University of Pennsylvania with Summa Cum Laude honors and an award for social justice and community impact.

In an Instagram post, the Filipino TV host expressed joy and pride over his daughter’s academic achievement, describing it as the result of years of perseverance, resilience and faith.

Summa Cum Laude

He began his message candidly, writing, “Can I make yabang?” before going on to celebrate Eliana’s accomplishment. Kuya Kim shared that his daughter is now officially a UPenn graduate who earned Summa Cum Laude distinction, a recognition reserved for students with exceptional academic performance.

He also revealed that Eliana was honored with the Elaine Simon Award for Social Justice and Contribution to the Community of Pennsylvania. According to his post, the award highlights her commitment to meaningful advocacy work and her involvement in community-centered initiatives.

Kuya Kim reflected on her college journey, noting that Eliana’s four years at the Ivy League school were far from easy. He described it as a challenging period not only for his daughter but also for their family, saying that it tested them in many ways.

Still, he emphasized that her “passion, persistence and resilience prevailed,” adding that the achievement was well-earned.

Pride and gratitude

He ended his message with a deeply emotional note of pride and gratitude, saying, “We are mighy proud of you and we love you so much Eliana! SSD! Salamat sa Diyos!”

In his Instagram Story, he further highlighted the Elaine Simon Award, which is given to a senior Urban Studies major. The University of Pennsylvania defines the recognition as an honor for students whose academic and extracurricular work demonstrates dedication to addressing urban issues and promoting opportunity and voice for all urban citizens.
