Netflix animated phenomenon “Kpop Demon Hunters” is officially eligible for consideration in the animated feature category at the 2026 Academy Awards.

The Academy’s announcement comes after the film’s record-setting run on Netflix and a limited theatrical release across New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

In August, the movie expanded to 1,750 theaters for sing-along screenings, grossing $18 million.

The film is one of 35 features that could make the final nomination list come January 2026. The list includes titles ranging from “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc” and “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle” to “Zootopia 2

This news positions the global phenomenon alongside fan-favorite animations, drawing comparisons to Disney hit “Frozen.”
