London commuters face rush hour misery after two main lines hit by disruption

Commuters face travel chaos this morning as routes leading into two major airports announced disruption.

National Rail said that disruption between London St Pancras International and Luton Airport Parkway is expected to last until 12pm.

There are also issues on lines leading into Stansted Airport, with delays possible until 10am.

National Rail confirmed at around 7.45am that overhead electrical wires at Elstree & Borehamwood had been damaged.

This could delay trains between London St Pancras International and Luton Airport Parkway by up to 30 minutes.

Trains from St Pancras to Sheffield, and those heading towards Corby, are impacted.

A signalling system fault at Stansted Airport has meanwhile hit CrossCountry services to Bristol Temple Meads, Birmingham New Street and Cambridge.

Greater Anglia trains to Norwich and London Liverpool Street, and the Stansted Express, are also impacted.

Those lines reopened at around 7.30am but delays are expected while services recover.

East Midlands Railway customers likely to be affected by the St Pancras delays are advised to travel as planned.

East Midlands Railway has arranged for tickets to be used at no extra cost with Thameslink between London St Pancras International and Bedford, in both directions. 

The railway firm is also running a shuttle service between Kettering and Corby in both directions

Stansted Express travellers can use their trains tickets on CentralConnect bus routes 305 and 333 from Bishops Stortford.

Advance purchase tickets holders can also travel on earlier or later trains if their booked service is cancelled.
