London Euston named the capital’s worst station for toilets

If you’ve ever used a toilet at a London train station, it’s more than likely that your experience will have been less than pleasant.

However, following a study that has analyzed thousands of TripAdvisor reviews from different stations across the UK and Europe, the capital’s worst toilets have officially been revealed.

Researchers have found that travellers should avoid London Euston’s loos at all costs after 63% of reviews were negative towards it.

Placing eighth in the overall rankings, the station’s facilities were reportedly dirty, smelly and poorly maintained, with one reviewer branding the men’s toilets ‘a disgrace’.

Elsewhere in London, both Waterloo and Liverpool Street recorded negative scores of 52%.

One Paddington visitor described the station’s toilets as ‘really gross’, complaining about sticky floors and toilet seats.

Meanwhile, the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras International also attracted criticism, with its close neighbor King’s Cross performing better.

At the other end of the spectrum, Victoria Station was deemed to have the best toilets.

Just 23% of reviews about its facilities were negative, with some passengers praising the toilets as ‘spotless’ and saying they were cleaned regularly.

The research also uncovered how a great source of frustration for people was having to pay to use the toilets.

Around 65% of all negative reviews mentioned how there was a charge to access the facilities despite passengers already having purchased train tickets.

Victoria, who performed well in the rankings, was one station who has recently scrapped its payment system which may have contributed to its success.

Despite Euston’s poor reviews, London stations in general were found to be better than elsewhere in Europe.

In cities such as Milan, Glasgow and Manchester, they each received worse overall scores.

Libby Mayfield, head of marketing at research company Dark Horse, said: ‘Millions of people will pass through the UK and Europe’s major train stations this summer, hoping to enjoy the sights and sounds of a leisurely rail journey, but unfortunately this ranking reveals that along with delays and cancellations, anyone needing the loo will have to deal with an extra dose of unpleasantness.

‘It’s a reminder that doing the dirty work isn’t easy or glamorous, but if you don’t, your reputation ends up going down the toilet.’
