Commuters have been urged to leave London Victoria station this morning over a fire alert.

Passengers arriving into the central London station at 6.30am were told that there was an ’emergency’, and were asked leave both the train and Underground platforms.

A statement from TfL access said: ‘This station is closed while we respond to a fire alert.’

It is unclear if there is a fire at the station or the evacuation is a precaution.

One passenger told Metro: ‘I was just about to go through barriers onto tube platform when the gates opened the wrong way to let people out, and then the klaxon started.

‘As it’s early Friday morning, there were not many people about – I don’t know how many were on the platform.

‘The guards were shouting at the people who were ignoring all the warnings and trying get onto the tube to stay away.

‘Everyone then left – people were standing around trying to work out how they’d continue their journeys – I decided to just hop across the road and get the bus instead as it’d be easier.’

Metro is contacting London Fire Brigade and TfL for further details.
