M1 forced to close after huge crash involving car and tanker 

The M1 has been forced to partially close after a crash involving a tanker and a car blocks multiple lanes.

National Highways has confirmed the major motorway is closed northbound between Junction 15 near Wellinborough and Junction 15a near Northampton.

They added a ‘complex’ vehicle recovery is taking place.

Two lanes has since reopened, but the slip roads remain closed.

Police and investigating the accident after the tanker ‘came to a rest on its side’ just before 11pm last night.

The A45 has been reopened as a diversion route despite its planned closure.

Northamptonshire Police said: ‘The closed section is now from junction 15 to 16. A further update will be issued shortly.’
